Egyptian Papyrus Painting:   Nefertari Bride of the Nile

Egyptian Papyrus Painting: Nefertari Bride of the Nile
Nefertari - the wife of Ramsesses  was quite probably the only Egyptian royal wife, other than Queen Tiy, to be deified during her lifetime. Ramesses' temple at Abu Simbel also has a smaller temple nearby dedicated to Nefertari and the goddess Hathor—a very unusual act, as temples were usually dedicated to deities, not mortals.  She is depicted here sailing down the Nile, note the royal cartouche at the top, she holds the ankh or Key of Life in her right had and wears the head dress of Hathor.  Bast is at her feet..she sail upon the lotus flower - the symbol of love.
